book clubbin - carried: how one mother's trust in God helped her through the unthinkable

I’ve decided to start a new series because I want to read for fun more. I was recently gifted a copy of Carried by Michelle Schmidt and I seriously could not put it down.

If you don’t know the basis of the story, it’s about Michelle’s daughter Annie who disappeared one day. Michelle found out her daughter was missing when she went to go visit Annie for a weekend. She was met at her daughter’s apartment with, “I thought she was camping with you,” and spent the next few months searching for her daughter. (honestly, a nightmare come true) After months of searching, Annie’s body was found.

Carried tells Michelle’s story of how her faith carried her through her most trying times. She reflects on times in her life where her faith was tested and her testimony of a loving God was strengthened.

A few of my favorite excerpts from the book:

“If you don’t struggle and learn to turn to the Lord for help and guidance, you will never come to know the Lord as you need to…. But it is only through struggling through sorrow that you will be able to grow in faith and be able to reach your full potential.”

“You will be amazed at what you can accomplish in this work, when you don’t care who gets the credit.” - Harry S Truman

“When we turn our lives over to to the Lord and trust Him, He will make so much more out of our lives than we are able to do on our own.”

You can get your copy of Carried, at Deseret Book. I highly recommend reading this book and found my own personal faith strengthened through reading Michelle’s story.
